Last Updated on February 23, 2022 by William S. Hatton

Whenever you put your hand on your chest, you can feel your heart beating. Do you have any idea what is going on there or what keeps your heart ticking? Your heart beats about 100,000 times, causing 2000 gallons of blood to your body.

Do you know how much does a heart weighs (human)?

A human heart weighs 200 to 450 grams but about 300 grams.

The Chita is the fastest animal, but the resting heart beats about 120 beats per minute, like a jogging human.

What is the heart?

The heart carries blood throughout our body, carrying oxygen to every cell. The heart is a pumping device, usually beating about 60 to 100 times per minute. After oxygen spreads throughout the body, the blood returns to the heart. Then the heart sends blood to the lungs to take in more oxygen. And this cycle is repeated repeatedly.

The heart pumps blood to our bodies and supplies blood throughout the body. It maintains the body’s immune system. The heart’s left side on the chest, which we can feel by touching. That heart is so necessary for our body. Do we know how much does a heart weighs? An adult human heart weighs 300 grams.

Now we will know what a heart can have and how it completes its work.

The heart has four chambers, two at the top and two at the bottom.

  • The lower two chambers are the right ventricle and the left ventricle.  Between the two ventricles is a wall called the interventricular septum. Those pump blood from the heart.
  • The upper two chambers are the right atrium and the left atrium. A wall in the middle of the atria is called the inner septum. They enter the heart and receive blood.
  • The aortic valve is located between the left ventricle and the aorta, carrying blood throughout the body. The pulmonary valve is locked between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery, carrying blood to the lungs.
  • The tricuspid valve separates the right atrium from the right ventricle. The mitral valve separates the left atrium the left ventricle. And two valves separate the ventricle from the large blood vessel that carries blood from the heart.

The pulmonary artery is a large artery that comes from the heart. It divides into two main branches and carries blood from the heart to the lungs. In the lungs, the blood absorbs oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. The blood then returns to the heart throughout the pulmonary veins.

  • The aorta branches carry blood to the heart muscle and other body parts. The branches grow smaller and smaller as they move away from the aorta.
  •  A network of tiny blood vessels called capillaries contact very small arterial branches to very small veins in each part of the body.
  • The capillaries then travel to the small veins. The two large veins leading to the heart are the superior vena cava.
  • Once the blood returns to the heart, it must re-enter the pulmonary circulation.
